My cats

Life’s so hard these days... and she’s busy with trifles. I heard this phrase very many times. So, why am I still busy with these ‘trifles’?

First of all, ‘cause I adore the cats. These unbelievable creatures, who can see right into your soul as nobody else. Who can love more devotedly than a dog, but without exposing this love. Who are incredibly beautiful and diverse in all their ways.

Secondly, ‘cause I’m sure that even a most gone vagabond, whatever situation he can find himself in, nearly always has a chance to survive. He can go into the street with an outstretched hand, crawl to a hospital – and in any case they will give him food and assistance, they won’t let him die.

And how many chances a homeless and dying animal has? Only one – that on its way it meets such an abnormal person as myself. Who won’t pass it by, turning away from it. We don’t have any asylums, any special services, like in civilized states, so what shall we do?

No, I’m not blaming those passing by. I’ve been acting same for many years. Until one day I understood – no more. I’d turn away – and it dies, right here and now. Thus the history of my foster home for stray cats began.

But I’m a realistic person at that, and I understand that I can give help to only a few. That’s why every time I make my choice in favor of the smallest, most sick and hungered. Those, who are otherwise doomed. Each of the asylum inhabitants got there as a kitten – either utterly sick, or teeny-tiny, at the age of 2-3 weeks, or about that:

My foster home is located in an old building, which some time ago served as a summer-house. Each of my animal’s fate is worth a biography book.
Some of them were rescued from dogs’ teeth, some – from under a car. The majority was just sick and exhausted to the last degree.

Here are only some stories of my nurslings.

Keed. Found in a vegetable market at the age of 4-6 weeks. A bag of bones. Was sick long, could not gain in weight.

It's Keed now:

Masya. She was found at the age of 3-4 months in the utmost degree of exhaustion, suffered from rhinotracheitis, pneumonia.

Now she’s a plump beauty, a real wonder.

Bonya. Found at the age of two-three weeks at night, in the rain, in the yard of a high rise building. It turned out that she had been brought from somewhere by kids and abandoned.

She’s growing up now:

Karlusha. Found at the age of a month and a half in the last degree of dystrophy.

Nourished and happy now.

Alisa. Was taken away from stray dogs. But they had time to bite her tummy and diaphragm through. Only small scars left after the operation.

Our beauty is OK now.

Choo. Found absolutely tiny by a busy highway. Was very exhausted, and her stomach was terribly swollen.

She’s a grown-up and fantastically attractive now.

And so on, and so on... We have dozens of such stories. Besides the cats, there’re two puppies, exposed a month ago.

I know that a lot of people are eager to rescue stray animals. But not all of them can do that. But you can help those who’re already doing that. We badly need your support. In any form.
I’d be thankful for old blankets and bed sheets, rubber gloves, food and medicines. But we mostly need a usable premise; the current one is damp and cold, not good for the winter.
It’s no use to expect the help locally. I’ve tried. As one businessman said to me, - ‘Cats? Well, it’s not serious. Like cockroaches in the streets’.
Of course, if it were about tigers, he might have been touched. People love everything big and rare.
They fail to think that a small creature also has a soul. A great one - since it is capable of loving and suffering.
But who cares for the sorrows of some animals in a tiny unrecognized republic, striving for survival as my asylum?
